when i was younger, i used to hate the fact that my parents controlled the radio/music in the car. sometimes they would play Abbott and Costello - who's on first, which is brilliant. but most of the time it was Bruce, the rolling stones, Billy Joel, and so on. i have no argument with that music now. i like those three artists plus a lot of other music from that generation. but i've been thinking, what kind of music are we going to play in the car when we're driving with our kids? for a lot of people, this question doesn't matter. there's a lot of music without curses, bad words, or negative messages. on the other hand, there's rap/hip-hop/screaming crazy music/whatever else you want to put in this category with messages that we might not want our children to hear when they're very young.
now i know they had a lot of drug related songs when our parents were growing up (our parents in reference to people of my generation), and we do as well. but, then there's all the other messages that are in music today that go past the limit of the baby boomers' music. in our present time, there is really nothing that you cant say through music. for me, i like all kinds of music, so i can choose what to play in those situations. (i'm trying not to write this in a negative/judgemental way, so please do not get offended if it comes out the wrong way). for some, music with the parental advisory label on it is the only music they listen to. so what happens when they drive with their kids?
to me, it's important that you show your kids who you are and where you came from. music is a big part of that. so, do you have them endure your music, or do you turn on the radio and find something that won't make your child ask "what does that mean?"
i hope i got my thoughts across. just something to think about.
here's the Abbott and Costello act. enjoy.

the follow up question to this is - what will be the popular music our kids listen to themselves (and what will censorship on the radio be like).... will it be even crazier to the point where our music wouldn't seem crazy to play?
